Colorado - A Favourite
Trip
A Fantastic State
I did not choose to go to
Colorado - it chose me.
I had to visit Denver,
Colorado for two days. This was to have a thorough health
review. The clinic I had chosen happened to be in
Denver.
So, that being a long way for me to go (I
live in southern UK) I thought I'd make the most of it and see
some of the highlights of Colorado.
I'd make a plan!
A Very Pleasant
Surprise
When I started looking at the web sites
about Colorado I soon realized that, firstly it was full of
National Parks; secondly there was a lot of beautiful
landscape - much of it mountainous; and thirdly there were
very many attractions.
Up to now I had seen mainly eastern and
western America with just a brief visit to Memphis. Colorado
was certainly a great choice to broaden my horizon.
Soaring Colorado - Zip
Wiring
The first thing to catch my eye was zip
wiring or zip lining, also called, I now discovered,
soaring.
My partner agreed that this was a
definite choice, so that was fixed.
Next, I wanted to find a show somewhere.
I found one put on by the Rockie Mountain Repertory Company, in
Great Lake. That fitted our dates, so that was attraction
number two agreed.
Riding A Train
Thirdly, I had found that there were a
number of narrow-gauge train lines which went into the Rockie
Mountains. They date back to mining times, when they were used
for transport. The trains have been upgraded, and the lines
offer stunning views.
I decided to book a trip out of La
Veta.
Filling The Gaps
From then on it was a case of 'joining
the dots' by filling in between these points so that our drives
would not be too long.
In the end I had five
locations - the other two being Manitou Springs and Black
Canyon of Gunnison Park - and planned to have two nights
in each. I made firm bookings for the zip wiring
(soaring), train trip and the show, then started searching
for places to stay.
In Denver I booked a motel; elsewhere I found guest houses,
some of which looked fantastic, and nearly all of which I
could look at on Google 'street view' to check them out.
The trip booked and accommodation and activities sorted out,
I was ready for 'the off'.
A Stunning Trip
This trip turned out to be one of the best of my life. How
great that I chanced to come to Colorado. I have always liked
visiting America. Now I know why so many Americans don't go
abroad: they have such fantastic places to visit at home!
This site gives the full details of that great trip. I hope
you will go, and will try some of the places I have
recommended.
I think you will enjoy them as much as we did.
