The Towns of
Colorado

Colorado Is A Great State With
Some Lovely Towns And Cities
My trip to Colorado
started off in Denver. I had chosen Denver because I was
visiting a leading anti-aging clinic out of my desire
to stay healthy.
Of course, you can't travel from the UK
to Colorado for a two day appointment then fly straight home;
it was an opportunity to explore.
Once I started looking at the web
sites about Colorado, I realised what a fantastic state it was
and with some very attractive towns and cities.
For a start - Denver. A spacious
city, with a lot going on. Lots of arty places - museums,
convention centers, art galleries, sculptures, Botanical
Gardens, Red Rock Canyon.
Colorado Springs - a
name I recalled from the past, for some reason, which had
a romantic, attractive ring to it. Again, lots of arts
going on there.
Boulder - I knew of
this as somewhere a person I knew had moved to. I knew it
had a reputation as a 'hippy'-type, spiritual place.
Add to that the small towns I planned to visit on our way
into and out of the mountains.
My plan was to spend a few days in Denver itself to get over
jet lag, then spend my two days in the clinic. After that
I'd head down to Colorado Springs.
I wanted to include a narrow-gauge rail trip, and I chose
the one out of La Veta. So this was our next stop.
From here the trip went further up. (We were already at
5-6000 feet.)
On to Durango
I wanted to end up at Durango, far to the west and up in the
mountains. This is where the most exciting 'attraction' I
had found took place. It was zip-wiring, also called zip-lining
or simply 'soaring'.
Then on to Black
Canyon of Gunnison National Park, which was located two or
three hours to the north.
This was a fantastic canyon - and a reminder of the walk my
partner and I had done 3 years previously down to the bottom of
the Grand Canyon.
After that, the longest leg of the trip, back to Grand Lake,
north west of Denver, and next to Rocky Mountain National Park.
I booked a show at a theatre in Grand Lake, so we had to be at
the town by 7.30.
Yet Another National Park
The final trip was through
Rocky Mountain National Park and down to Boulder. Then on to
Denver for the last night.
Once I had started my
research, I turned from 'uninformed' to 'excited'.
There was a tremendous amount to do and
see in Colorado, and many lovely and interesting towns to
visit.
